Great post, Craig. I've always felt that"genre" was a term invented by gatekeepers (book publishers, movie studios, record labels, etc.) in order to market things to consumers. Art is art, with many different flavors to choose from, I say. My shelfie:

I thought I was alone in my disdain for "genre." Thanks for making that not so. I've always been an eclectic reader, and I chose that description because indiscriminate made me feel terrible.
